songs from a hunter's heart
About The Man . . . and his music
I was born in Cannon County in 1948, in a territory known as "The Barrens" in the middle of Tennessee. I am the oldest of five children. We lived in a three-room shack with no plumbing, and Momma cooked on a wood stove.
We ate from a big garden, and Momma canned everything. We killed two hogs every winter, and had our Jersey cow to use for milk and butter.
We always had a tree hound and a pointing bird dog. We kept a fish basket in the creek almost year-round. The first memories of my life are of hunting. We ate a lot of wild game, because, like a lot of others around us, we was as poor as you could get.
Daddy made a little money doing odd jobs, but most of the money came from some kind of liquid recipe. Then time caught up with Pap, along with the revenuers, and we had to leave Cannon County when he got a real job with a construction company up toward Nashville.
Me and the dogs hated leaving the hardwoods and clear streams, but life started looking up. Momma got an electric stove, we got a house with plumbing kind of out in the country, and there was a creek close enough to walk to. We even had hamburgers and ice cream on Friday nights. Then the big day came when we got a TV.
I finally made it through high school and went in the Navy in 1968. I done two tours of duty in Tonkin Gulf, Vietnam, and got out in 1972.
I went to work for a local phone company, and retired from there in 2002. In that time, I married, had two daughters, and now have two grandchildren.
I’ve been blessed with the treasure of love and support from a good family.
My passion for the woods and rivers has never left me, and has always been strong above all else that ever happened to me in life. To me, there is not much that brings more comfort than being able just to reach over and gently caress the top of the head of a good hunting dog.
Randall is an accomplished hunter that just can't wait to get into the outdoors and spend time hunting deer, turkey and waterfowl either by himself or friends and family. If ever anyone belonged on this site because of his love of the outdoors, Randall does.
Keep singing the songs that take us into the fields and around the ponds with you Randall. Many of us can't put to music what we feel afield -- we'd love for you to do it for us.
