Ken Colenutt's New Breed Farm
&
Pheasant Preserve
The New Breed Farm and Pheasant Preserve has making upland hunters' dreams come true for 15 years by providing top quality pheasants and chuckars for their hunts on 250 acres of a great mix of agricultural land and overgrown hedge rows. The heart pounding explosions from pheasants under foot and rocketing chukars leaving cover give you all you could ever ask for in a put-n-take hunt. These aren't chip shots either. The shots are made from all angles and distances because these birds don't just run straight away from you at a leisurely pace - they're wild and unpredictable.
New Breed hunts start around September 15 and usually conclude on or about April 15. Occassionally, arrangements can be made in the summer for birds if someone wants to train their dogs. Groups of 1 with 5 birds and larger groups with 120 birds can book time on the preserve. Usually, hunts with less than 10 birds carry a higher cost per bird.
Quite often large pheasant scrambles for clubs or corporate entertainment happen on the property. I know from experience that the scrambles are a hoot when you walk the fields with friends and family. If you're interested in such hunts or organizing one for your club or company, please make arrangements about 2 weeks to a 1 month in advance.
Pictured above is one of the New Breed cabins situated on a beautiful pond at the back of the acreage while the cabin below is located amongest the elk and buffalo herds as you enter the 'killing fields'. The cabins are wood heated, comfortable and you don't have to take your boots off at the door. Lunches are available and usually consist of elk or buffalo chile.Shown below are your two views of the fields that hold soy/corn/sorbgum/alfalfa etc. or whatever the crop is for the year in which the birds are held for hunters: below the top is view left of the road and bottom is the view right of the road.
Below is the pond that frames cabin 2 at the back of the propery. It certainly makes for a peaceful setting as you take a break from the action for your lunch or at the end of the day.
This is sample of what you'll see as you enter the property for your hunt: buffalo (top) and elk (bottom) give a real western flavour to the hunt location.Standard hunting regs apply so you must be licensed and wear hunter orange. You can also request a guide and dog for your hunt at additional costs of course.
Ken Colenutt also has specialty meats available in buffalo and elk should desire to pick up some roasts, steaks or pepperettes while you're there.New Breed Farm and Pheasant Preserve looks forward to speaking with you and helping you and your friends/family create hunting memories.
