Profile of Jeremi Skelton - Owner Monarch Images
First of all I’d like to let everyone know that I’m a hunter and outdoorsman at heart. As part of my love for the outdoors, I’ve always been interested in preserving those great moments, so video and photography was, and still is, a big part of my outdoor adventures. My knowledge about cameras, electronics, computers and video editing was all learned along the way. The following is a brief story of how I got into building scouting cameras, and video editing.
What got me started on scouting cameras was being intrigued as to what game were lurking in my hunting areas when I wasn’t around. Manufactured, store bought scouting cameras were expensive, so I did some web surfing and found plans to build my own. I built my first one which was a film camera hooked up to a sensor from a garage motion light. After many trips, and having to wait to get film developed I soon came to realize that I needed to look into “Digital”.
Without much of an electronic background, I was nervous to “hack” into an expensive digital camera to modify it to work as a scouting camera. With a bit of nervous sweat, and tons of help from the people on the Trail Camera Forums such as Jesse’s Hunting and Outdoors, Pixcontroller, and Chasingame to name a few, I was able to successfully produce my first digital scouting camera! Since then it’s been an addicting hobby, and in order to keep building them without going broke, I started building for others. I’ve now been building digital scouting cameras for about 4 years, and have put them to the test in “Canadian” conditions.
