professional camo dipping is now in SW Ontario
Scott and Karen Brush live in LaSalle Ontario and operate Brushfire Hydrographics.
Scott began his enthusiasm with the outdoors over 40 years ago acting as his grandfather's rabbit dog. Over the years, and several field promotions, he became an accomplished gun and bow hunter passing on the responsibility of kicking brush piles to his son and is now training a grandson. Researching camo finishes for some prototype archery equipment gave him reason to investigate film dipping. Now, nearly a year later, he and his wife Karen have taken the plunge to offer that very service to folks right here in Southern Ontario.
Karen, an archer and outdoorswoman in her own right, has spent a great deal of time creating unique dried and silk flower arrangements. She now uses her artistic talents to help craft the finest hydrographic projects possible.
Just what is hydrographics?
Hydrographics, water transfer imaging, or film dipping, are all common names for this process. Ink patterns that have been printed onto a water soluble film are floated on the water's surface in a dipping tank. The film dissolves and an activating solution is applied. The parts, having been prepared and applied with a base colour, are immersed into the water. The surface tension and pressure of the water wrap the floating ink pattern to adhere to the surface of the piece. The part is then washed to remove any residue, inspected, and a protective clear coat is applied.
The results are striking and will add beauty and value to most anything. Anything, that is, that is non-porous, can be submersed in water. Metals, plastics, hardwoods, bone, stone… you get the idea. Patterns include various camouflages, wood grains, metals, animal prints, and many, many more. The appearance of each pattern can also be altered by applying different base colours. Clear coats are very durable and can be completely matte or high gloss.
With all of these options, just imagine the opportunities to customize your belongings to really reflect your distinctive personality. Really, your imagination is your biggest limitation!
